It starting to look like one of the most monumentally stupid things the done recently has been the push towards privatization of support services for the military.

It seems that when the bullets start flying, the private contractors are no where to be found.

You can order a soldier into battle and court-martial him if he refuses, but a civilian can just up and quit, or not show up at all.

So with the report today that 130 candidates have filed the neccessary papers to get on the recall ballot in California, it now becomes possible for the next Governor of California to be elected with as little as 0.77 percent of the vote.

Darrell Issa spent $1.7 million to buy a recall election so he could be Governor of California only to have Ah-nold The Terminator steal his spot on the ballot.

How stupid is that?

Of course the most monumentally stupid thing your government almost did recently was the so called "Terrorism Futures Market".

The market would work this way. Investors would buy and sell futures contracts - essentially a series of predictions about what they believe might happen in the Mideast. Holder of a futures contract that came true would collect the proceeds of investors who put money into the market but predicted wrong.

It took less than a day from the time the plan was made public to the time it was scrapped.
